Virginia Commission Nixes Campus Crime Notification Requirements

RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia state crime commission will recommend that campus police develop mutual-aid agreements with local police departments but will not require campus agencies to report unattended deaths or sexual assaults to local police within 24 hours, reports the Free Lance-Star.

Additionally, in response to the Penn State scandal, the commission is recommending that university employees be required to report suspected child abuse.

The recommendations are in response to house bill 2490, which was presented by Representative Paula Miller.
