NASHVILLE, Tenn., In response to a Sept. 25 dormitory shooting where a student football player was shot in the arm, Vanderbilt University has increased security measures on campus.
Campus police and security guards will be stepping up their patrols. Card readers will also be installed in some of the dormitory elevators so non-students, like the two gunman who opened fire last month, will not be able to enter the building unescorted. Additionally, a 16-person task force has been created to oversee campus safety.
A CCTV camera installed inside the dormitory’s elevator captured clear images of the gunman while the Sept. 25 attack was taking place. Because of the video images, the suspects were apprehended and arrested shortly after the incident.
