A Utah man is expected to face charges after video surveillance footage shows him leaving his five-year-old daughter on a college campus alone in the early hours of Oct. 13.
The girl stayed in the spot her father dropped her off on the campus of Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College until university police officers found her cold and shivering at 7:30 a.m., according to nbc4icom.
The girl was reportedly left with nothing but a small blanket in 39-degree weather.
Now local police are trying to determine the motivation for the crime.
“We don’t really know what purpose he’d take the child, if there was drug-induced psychosis,” Ogden Police Lieutenant Tim Scott says. “Right now, we’re waiting to interview the father.”
The girl’s mother says the father’s drug issues have caused problems in the past. The mother claims that courts denied a proactive protective order against her ex.
Charges against the man are likely to include child abandonment and abuse. The names of the girl’s parents are not being released to protect her identity.
