The alleged gunman was wearing all black, was heavily armed and was possibly wearing SWAT gear, reports KTLA. He allegedly attempted a home invasion robbery. He then fired shots inside another home, which then caught fire. Two people were found dead inside the home. The shooter then either drove or was driven by a woman a few blocks away, just outside of Santa Monica College, where he fired shots at a crowded public bus and at other vehicles. He then went onto campus and started shooting in the campus library. Some reports note that a campus employee heard dozens of gunshots and saw students, who were taking final exams, seeking areas of safety, CBS Los Angeles reports.

He was then taken into custody by police.

Six people have been hospitalized. SMC and all schools in Santa Monica are in lockdown.

The Secret Service was alerted, as President Barack Obama was at a luncheon fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee about a 10-minute drive away from the shooting incident.
