Campus security is being criticized at DePaul University after Black Lives Matter protesters overran a Republican event at the school and threatened the person hosting it May 25.

Milo Yiannopoulos, a conservative editor for Breitbart News, is demanding money back after he paid the school to provide security for his event, reports The Inquisitr.

“What I’m surprised by is that the security, which I paid a thousand dollar for otherwise they threatened they would cancel [the event], refused to remove somebody from the stage who threatened to hit me,” Yiannopoulos said.

The controversial speech, titled Feminism is Cancer, was interrupted by protesters blowing whistles and shouting threats in Yiannopoulos’ face on stage (a video of the event can be seen below). When a protester took the microphone, Yiannopoulos left the Student Center. A group of protesters later blocked Yiannopoulos from reentering the building.

Following the incident, a group of students who supported Yiannopoulos complained at the president’s office.

University President Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider apologized to Yiannopoulos and the DePaul College Republicans group that invited him to speak.

“Yesterday’s speaker was invited to speak at DePaul, and those who interrupted the speech were wrong to do so,” Holtschneider said in a statement. “Universities welcome speakers, give their ideas a respectful hearing, and then respond with additional speech countering the ideas.”

Yiannopoulos’ college speaking tour has frequently been met with protesters. A group of Rutgers University students smeared blood on their faces during his event at the school.
