The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee announced the hire of Joseph LeMire to be the new police chief on June 10.
LeMire’s take over is effective July 13, according to cbs58.com. Assistant Chief Greg Habeck had been the interim chief over the last school year.
UWM’s police chief manages the university police department, advises the campus on ways to combat crime and improve campus safety and develops relationships with the university community, the town and surrounding law enforcement agencies. LeMire will report to UWM’s Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administrative Affairs Robin Van Harpen.
LeMire was previously the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh police chief, where he helped create the largest student security programs in the UW system and established the UW-Oshkosh Safety Zone to improve student security. LeMire, who
recently got his master’s degree in public administration, also worked with the Student Affairs department as part of his department’s slogan “Building Relationships, Protecting Community.”
