An officer working at the University of Maryland is in critical condition after being shot early Sept. 6 in what university police believe was an armed robbery.
The officer, who was unarmed, was shot in the arm and taken to a local hospital for treatment, reports the Washington Post.
One suspect was taken into custody after the shooting and the other suspect is believed to have gotten away with three lock boxes.
University of Maryland Police Chief David B. Mitchell says the two suspects broke into a hotel and conference center near the University College campus around 2 a.m. and stole some portable safes in the facility.

It is not known how the two men got into the building, which is commonly used for meetings and night classes.
Police say the second suspect may still be armed. He is described as weighing between 180 and 200 pounds and was wearing a full face mask during the incident.
Chief Mitchell says police may have surveillance footage of the shooting and are working to release that at some point soon.
