STORRS, Conn. — University of Connecticut (UConn) Police Chief Robert Hudd is retiring following several months of controversy over his salary. Hudd has received nine raises worth $135,648 since 2001.
Hudd’s annual pay was hiked to $255,848 last August, the Hartford Courant reports. His second in command, Maj. Ronald Blicher, received a raise at the same time, resulting in a $201,883 annual salary.
Hudd’s job was expanded throughout his tenure to include public safety operations at the UConn Health Center and regional campuses; the environment health and safety department, and building and fire code operations.
Hudd has agreed to remain at UConn until his successor has been chosen and is ready to take over the job.
