UCLA, UC Berkeley Sexual Assault Policies to Undergo Audit

Published: November 20, 2013

LOS ANGELES — The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and UC Berkeley will undergo a state audit, examining how well both schools are meeting Clery Act and Title IX requirements.

In August, California lawmakers passed an audit request following a federal complaint filed against UC Berkeley alleging Clery Act violations. UCLA was selected without input from the UC Office of the President, the Huffington Post reports.

An auditor will investigate sexual harassment and violence reports from 2009 through 2013. The investigator will then determine how many of those reports were examined and resolved by university officials and the number referred to local police. Additionally, the auditor will determine how well each university has trained their staff on these policies.

For its part, UCLA representatives welcome the audit, expressing confidence that the review would “complement” its efforts.
