UCLA officials have put an end to students’ “Undie Run” this year after citing reports of injuries, fights and property damage. The thrice-annual run was started by students seven years ago to celebrate the end of finals.
The traditional runs attract thousands of students who wear nothing but underwear during their run through campus. Disappointed by the university’s decision, some students began a petition on Facebook as part of a “Save Undie Run” campaign.
Past Undie Runs have resulted in broken windows and sprinkler systems, damage to school property, and calls to campus police and emergency medical service units, reported the Los Angeles Times.
According to school officials, each run costs the university thousands of dollars in cleanup and emergency services.
