DAVIS, Calif. — The family of a student from the University of California, Davis, contacted police after the student began to exhibit suicidal and violent behavior. Police arrested Nicholas Benson outside of his truck, which contained a loaded rifle, a loaded shotgun and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
Benson was contacted by police negotiators on his cell phone prior to his arrest but continuously hung up the phone, Fox News reports. Police were unable to locate him, so they staked out his truck until he arrived.
Benson refused to cooperate with police, and instead attempted to reach the cab of his truck. A TASER was reportedly used to subdue him.
Benson was transported to Yolo County Jail on charges of making terrorist threats, obstructing and resisting officers, carrying a loaded weapon in a public place, and possession of an illegal assault weapon.
