DAVIS, Calif. — The University of California, Davis police officers who pepper sprayed students during a protest last November won’t face criminal charges, according to prosecutors.
Prosecutors said they used facts in a report on the incident that was compiled by a university-appointed task force, the Associated Press reports. The task force found that the officers perceived they were dealing with a hostile mob and needed to spray the protesters to clear a path to safety.
The University of California’s governing board last week reached a proposed settlement with 21 current and former students who were sprayed. A federal judge still needs to approve the deal.
