UC Berkeley Evacuated After Power Outage, Explosion

The main campus of the University of California at Berkeley was evacuated Monday evening after the power went out, which caused a generator to explode.

Five or six people were injured as a result of the explosion, with most being treated at the scene, reports SFGate.com. One person was sent to a local hospital. Twenty others were trapped in campus elevators but were freed by 8:30 p.m.

The power outage began around 4:30 p.m. Police are looking into the possibility that the outage and explosion were caused by a copper theft.
