COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri (MU) Board of Curators unanimously approved overhauling rules and regulations on sexual assaults and student conduct procedures on Thursday.

The board is currently working on a solution for how to handle sexual assault and mental health issues under Title IX. As the board decides on the solution, it has given MU President Tom Wolfe authority to issue executive orders regarding sexual assault and mental health cases while the board is out of session, KBIA.org reports.

The changes apply to the university’s Title IX programs that don’t allow sex discrimination in programs that receive federal funding, Connect Mid Missouri reports.

The policy change comes weeks after MU hired a full-time Title IX coordinator following an investigation that the university did not have a policy for reporting possible sexual assaults.
