LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Officials at the University of Louisville have approved spending $300,000 to add more police officers to patrol the campus.
The university will add four campus police officers and four security guards, bringing the number of officers to 45 and the number of security guards to 26.
Administrators are adding the new campus police officers because of a series of crimes. Although campus officials say crime numbers have not increased in the last two year, the latest crimes are more violent, Wave3.com reports.
On Sept. 2, a female student was attacked and stabbed near campus. Three days later, a male student was jumped on University of Louisville grounds. And in July, a university employee was shot near campus.
Campus police will also patrol surrounding areas, and the Louisville Metro Police Department plan to assist UofL police with canine officers, mounted police and other patrols in certain areas.
The university is also extending shuttle routes and time to include some off-campus housing.
