AUSTIN, Texas — A glitch in the University of Texas’ emergency text alert system has led schools officials to ask parents not to sign up for the service, reports KXAN.com.
UT police officers discovered that students did not receive alerts for two separate incidents, which turned out to be hoaxes. Upon further investigation, officials realized that when parents signed up for the alerts, the system knocked students’ cell phone numbers off the list.
University officials have encouraged parents to contact the Texas Exes and UT Parents Association to stay informed of emergencies.
