U. of North Alabama to Upgrade Security Systems

FLORENCE, Ala. – The University of North Alabama will be installing nearly 60 cameras to monitor the doors of its residence halls.

The cameras will watch over dorm lobbies and public areas.  Additionally, a card access system and an alarm system to monitor propped doors will be installed. When there is an alarm, the on-duty resident advisor and other resident life staff will be notified.

Officials anticipate the system will be operational by the fall semester and will cost about $270,000. The investment is intended to reduce future staffing costs by eliminating desk assistant positions.
