A hospital can have the best security technology and disaster plans in the world, but fail miserably during an actual crisis if its administrators, staff and public safety officers aren’t adequately trained. Although many campus protection professionals understand this, according to Campus Safety’s latest survey, there still appears to be many healthcare facilities that have a significant amount of room for improvement in this area.
More than one in four (29%) hospital respondents have some level of dissatisfaction with the amount of training that their public safety officers receive.
Despite this challenge, an overwhelming majority said that their officers were required to be trained on HIPAA (87%), verbal de-escalation/crisis intervention (86%), infanct/child abuduction response (82%) and use of force/restraints (81%).
So, how does your hospital measure up?
