Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – Mercy Hospital will add extra police officers and lockdown its intensive care unit (ICU) until further notice in response to receiving threats last week against the hospital and its employees.
The hospital said a local group of individuals protested and made false claims online about Mercy’s COVID-19 protocol, reports KOCO.
“There have been many baseless allegations and attacks online this past week about our hospital and co-workers,” the hospital said. “We have done our absolute best to respond with dignity and respect toward people with a difference of opinion, but we must defend our co-workers,” reports Becker’s.
Last week’s protestors, who call themselves “The Ekklesia Oklahoma,” falsely claimed that Mercy Hospital has a “Fauci protocol” and received vouchers from the government for using certain medications or treatments for patients infected with the coronavirus.
The group also claimed, without evidence, that hospital staff are choosing not to provide proper care to COVID patients, calling hospital staff murderers and Nazis, reports the Black Wall Street Times.
The hospital denied the protestor’s claims, saying its employees follow evidence-based medicine to save patient lives.
In a Twitter post, Mercy said that in addition to bolstering hospital security, it is also pursuing a restraining order and additional legal action against the protestors.
