SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – A 15-year-old male student has been arrested for allegedly threatening on Instagram to commit a mass shooting at Southern California schools.
The boy was arrested Sunday. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department began investigating the teen late Saturday after they received at least 25 calls about the boy’s online posts, according to KTLA. The posts, which have been removed, included stock images of guns and dead bodies. The suspect also said there would be a “huge f****** shooting soon,” and that many people would die, according to the Daily Mail. Valencia High School was mentioned as the first target.
A search of the boy’s home did not uncover any weapons, nor did he have access to weapons.
The posts were made to get a reaction from friends, claim police.
Before the suspect was arrested, school officials and local law enforcement had planned to take extra precautions at area schools. The boy is now in the custody of the Los Angeles County Probation Department.
