CHARDON, Ohio – T.J. Lane, 18, has pleaded guilty in last year’s shooting deaths of three of his classmates, as well as to two counts of attempted aggravated murder.
As a result of the plea on Tuesday, Lane will most likely not face the death penalty, reports the Associated Press.
On the morning of Feb. 27, 2012, authorities say Lane, who was 17 at the time, opened fire in a cafeteria at Chardon High School. Five students were shot, three of whom died.
When the deputy who arrested Lane asked him if he shot the victims because of bullying or anger, he said, “No, I don’t get angry. I have no problems with people, they don’t even talk to me. I don’t know why I did this.”
Despite these comments, Lane was found to be mentally competent and was tried as an adult.
