Teen Arrested for Shooting Basketball Player Outside Dorm

BECKLEY, W. Va.

A 22-year-old basketball player at Mountain State University was shot multiple times outside the school’s athletics dorm on Dec. 3.

The Associated Press is reporting that Alvin Mitchell was shot 10 minutes after he had an altercation with 18-year-old Martrell Mitchell at a local convenience store.

According to news reports, the teenager turned himself into authorities after a family member informed police that he would be turning himself in. He is being held on a $500,000 bond and is charged with attempted first-degree murder and several other counts.

Neither the victim nor the suspect knew each other prior to the incident. As for the 6-foot-5 junior guard, his medical was not immediately available.
