Survey: 21% of Ala. Teachers Don’t Feel Safe at School

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A new survey revealed that although many Alabama teachers support armed security officers in schools, most oppose allowing administrators and teachers to carry guns at institutions.

Conducted by the Capital Survey Research Center, the polling arm of the Alabama Education Association, the study surveyed 699 public school teachers across the state, AL.com reports. Some 77% of respondents stated they feel their schools were mostly to very safe, while 7% said their school is not safe. Fourteen percent of respondents said their school is somewhat not safe.

For those who noted feeling unsafe, they named unsecured doors and unrestricted access to schools as the reasons for their responses.
