PROVO, Utah — Researchers at Brigham Young University have found that college students who receive significant financial support from their parents party more and work less than their less-subsidized classmates.
The study found that students who received complete financial support had less drive to become independent, The Salt Lake Tribune reports. These students were also more likely to engage in risky behaviors and participate in “potentially unhealthy experimentation.”
Based on the results of the study, researchers believe that the best approach for parents is to provide something between full and minimal support.
