Study: LGBTQ Youth Experience More Sexual Harassment

Compared to heterosexual adolescents, American youth who identify as being gay, bisexual or “questioning” are more likely to report that they were sexually harassed within the past year.

Female LGBTQ adolescents are particularly vulnerable, reports Reuters. The study, which appears in Child Abuse and Neglect, reports the following findings:

  • 72% of lesbian or queer girls reported being victims of sexual harassment in the past year
  • 66% of gay or queer boys and bisexual girls reported harassment
  • 43% of heterosexual girls and 23% of heterosexual boys said they were sexually harassed
