OAKLAND, Calif. – According to researchers at the University of Arizona, classroom interiors have the highest levels of bacteria, more than 20 times the germs found in a doctor’s office.
In a survey released by the Clorox Co., nearly two out of five parents have sent a sick child to school in the past year. Fourteen percent have sent a child with a fever of more than 100 degrees.
Clorox says 80 percent of germs are spread by touching surfaces, and an average child can touch 300 surfaces in 30 minutes. Children catch an average of 8 colds per year, and school children miss approximately 189 million school days due to colds.
The Clorox Co. is donating Clean Up the Classroom kits to help schools at www.cloroxclassrooms.com.
