CHICAGO — A proposed Chicago Public School student code of conduct would require staff and students to report bullying and the accusations would have to be investigated within 10 school days.
Also, principals would be required to continue working with all parties until “the target reports feeling safe and is interacting civilly with the perpetrator,’’ the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The code of conduct would also lower the automatic minimum penalty for serious offenses from 10 days out of school to five days in or out of school.
Some critics complained the new code does not do enough to ensure that arrests are only reserved for the most serious and harmful behavior.
