CINCINNATI — The University of Cincinnati is investigating its police department after campus officers Tasered an 18-year-old student on August 6. After being shot with the stun gun, the student died.
Although the exact cause of death is being investigated, the New York Daily News reports Everette Howard suffered a heart attack after a confrontation with officers who were investigating a reported assault. The incident occurred outside a dormitory where Howard was staying during a six-week college prep program. He was set to enroll at the University of the Cumberlands in the fall.
Officers were approached by Howard, who had balled his fists, according to school officials. The officers asked Howard to back off, but he refused. An officer then shot him once with a Taser.
