Student Says Bomb Threat Was a Joke

LOS ANGELES – A 21-year-old student at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) was released on $100,000 Dec. 9 for allegedly posting an online threat to shoot people at the school.

Carlos Huerta was taken into custody near his campus apartment around 10:15 p.m. Dec. 8. In a blog posted on JuicyCampus.com, Huerta reportedly wrote about shooting and killing as many people as possible until he was stopped either by the police killing him or by turning the gun on himself.

The threat was posted anonymously and was reported to authorities around 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 7. LMU’s Department of Public Safety and police concluded the blog was sent from Huerta’s computer.

Faculty and students were informed of the possible threat although school events were not canceled. The campus, however, was only open to those who were conducting business at the university.
