Student Death Leads to $2M In Campus Security Upgrades

NORFOLK, Va.  — Old Dominion University (ODU) is planning to spend $2 million in the next year to improve safety on its campus following the death of a student. Christopher Cummings was shot and killed near the campus two weeks ago.

ODU has already added lighting and surveillance cameras on campus, WTKR reports. The university also intends to work closely with Norfolk police to patrol off-campus housing.

Several violent crimes have taken place in the neighborhood around campus, including attacks on students.
