MADISONVILLE, Tenn. — A student at Sequoyah High School is claiming that the school’s principal assaulted him for wearing a T-shirt supporting the formation of a gay-straight alliance on campus.
On Sept. 27, Chris Sigler was told to cover up his shirt which read “Gay Straight Alliance: We’ve Got Your Back,” but wore it a second time on Sept. 30, the Huffington Post reports. Sigler said Principal Maurice Moser approached him in a classroom and ordered all the other students out, except for Sigler’s sister Jessica, who refused to leave.
Moser then allegedly grabbed Sigler by the arm, shoved him and repeatedly chest -bumped him while saying “Who’s the big man now?” Sigler’s mother claimed that when she arrived, Moser was leaning over her son and shouting at him. The Siglers filed a report with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.
The American Civil Liberties Union is assisting Sigler and other students in the case.
