PHOENIX — To train Arizona’s volunteer posse on the proper response to school shootings and gunmen, Maricopa County (Ariz.) Sheriff Joe Arpaio enlisted actor Steven Segal to lead the training exercise.
Roughly 48 of the nearly 3,500 posse members participated in the training, where Segal drew from his martial art skills to train individuals on the appropriate response to single- and multiple-shooter scenarios, room-to-room entry tactics and hand-to-hand combat techniques, according to the New York Daily News. Of those in attendance, 25 were high schools students, ages 14 to 18.
Arpaio noted that volunteers receive 100 hours of training and would not enter schools unless there was an immediate threat. He has received much criticism for choosing Segal to instruct the course.
