Congratulations to Georgetown County School District Safety and Risk Management Director Alan Walters for being one of this year’s Campus Safety Director of the Year finalists.
Here are some of his notable achievements:
- Identified areas of improvement in emergency response and hazard mitigation and used that as the basis to rewrite the district’s emergency operations plan
- In response to Hurricane Matthew arranged for evacuations, shelters and recovery sites at schools to provide food and water for county residents
- Identified school building design challenges and supervised $1.5 million in renovations at 20 locations. Upgrades included cameras, access control, secured walkways and bullet-resistant doors and glass.
The winners and runners up will be honored at the Campus Safety Conference in Philadelphia this summer.
