A former student who was sexually assaulted by a Baylor University football player in 2013 has settled with the school for an undisclosed amount.
The victim, a former Baylor women’s soccer player, was expected to file a Title IX lawsuit against the school until her attorney announced the settlement, according to NBC Sports.
Sam Ukwuachu, who was listed on Baylor’s football roster at the beginning of this season, was convicted of sexual assault in August of 2015. Ukwuachu had transferred to Baylor from Boise State in 2013 after being dismissed from Boise.

Trial proceedings revealed that Ukwuachu was violent toward his girlfriend at Boise, which may have led to his dismissal. Baylor football Head Coach Art Briles has denied having knowledge of Ukwuachu’s past transgressions, but former Boise Coach Chris Petersen said he gave Briles a thorough breakdown of Ukwuachu’s disciplinary record in a phone call prior to his transfer.
Baylor had been criticized for accepting Ukwuachu, who was a Freshman All-American defensive end at Boise.
A federal Title IX investigation into Baylor’s handling of the situation is still possible.
