SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Students at Seton Hall University walked out of class on Nov. 22 to protest the university’s alleged lack of campus security. Three dozen students gathered on the lawn, holding signs with slogans urging the school to increase the measures it’s taking to ensure student safety.
The protest follows an alleged sexual assault against a female student on campus. The student later recanted, saying the assault took place off campus, Livingston Patch reports. The incident comes two months after the shooting death of sophomore Jessica Moore at an off-campus party.
Protest organizer Josh Meyer, a junior, says he was attacked across the street from campus last year. He said the university should increase awareness by offering more classes about public safety.
In September, the university hired off-duty South Orange police officers to monitor the campus perimeter and increased campus police patrols.
