In Paths to Integrating Campus Electronic Security Systems,  we discussed the need for healthcare and educational campuses to transition from analog to digital electronic security systems and the migration plan that should be developed. Selecting the right manufacturer software to run it all can be a challenge for some.

When considering which manufacturer is the right fit for a campus, there are many options to consider. Several software offerings combine the access control and intrusion detection systems into one platform. There are a few manufacturers offering software combining access control, intrusion detection and video surveillance as one platform.

If it becomes cost prohibitive to migrate to a new manufacturer’s software platform, there are additional manufacturers that offer physical security information management (PSIM) software that will integrate and communicate efficiently with the existing systems and create a unified enterprise platform. This option may be especially beneficial if the campus is looking to integrate additional systems beyond security for situational awareness. In such instances, specialized technology consultants may become invaluable resources.
