TRENTON, N.J. — More than 100 security officers at Ann Klein Forensics Center protested the mental facility Monday after a member of security personnel was brutally attacked by hospital inmates.
The 200-bed psychiatric hospital houses prisoners rehabbing from county jail or state prison and the mentally deranged. On Oct. 2, several inmates stomped and beat security officer Stanley Sprouse, who suffered broken bones in his nose and face, The Trentonian reports.
Protesters said they feared for their lives because they are unarmed with nothing to defend them. Although the hospital has 240 guards, demonstrators argued that it was not enough, as the current ratio is two guards for every 25 inmates. Security personnel requested to have three guards for every 25 inmates.
Demonstrators will meet with hospital management on Friday for a status update.
