Security Officers Allege Recent Unionization Led to Layoffs

MILFORD, Conn. — High school security officers claim they were targeted first for layoffs because they recently formed a union and have gone to arbitration for a first contract.

The Board of Education voted last week to cut four of the seven security officer positions as well as seven teachers and some media aides, the Connecticut Post reports.  The union filed a complaint on June 1 with the state Board of Labor relations seeking the reinstatement of any laid-off employees.

No hearing date has been set. The layoffs take effect on July 1 if they are not rescinded.
