BATON ROUGE, La. – A private security officer hired by Southern University (SU) to guard a parking lot has been arrested for fatally shooting a fan of the school’s football team during an argument on Sept. 9 just outside A.W. Mumford Stadium.
Curtis Lilly, 41, will face second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon charges. Police say he shot Freddie Jackson, 59, in the stomach while the two were involved in an argument over a parking space during SU’s first home football game of the season.
Jackson later died in the hospital. Lilly was hired by the school to provide security services during SU’s home opener against Mississippi Valley State.
