SEATTLE — To enforce school zone speed limits here, the Seattle Police Department will being using speed safety cameras at four school locations beginning Dec. 10. Registered owners of any vehicle captured on camera exceeding the 20 miles per hour (mph) speed limit while the yellow beacons are flashing will receive a fine of $189.
“This is about safety for kids and their parents in school zones. Motorists need to slow down and obey the posted speed limits. This technology will encourage safer driving habits and prevent collisions,” said Chief John Diaz of the Seattle Police Department.
The department collaborated with American Traffic Solutions (ATS) to deploy the city’s first school zone speed safety cameras program.
“The goal of this program is the same as any road safety camera program, and that is to change driver behavior for the safety of all people using the public streets,” ATS President and CEO Jim Tuton said.
