BYRON, Ill. — The Byron School Board recently approved a strict policy regarding the use of surveillance videos. The prior school board installed more than 160 cameras but did not create a policy regarding their use.
Current board members said the lack of a policy created a feeling of “Big Brother,” WIFR reports. The new policy states that only a site principal with the permission of the superintendent or the Board of Education may view the surveillance tapes.
Exceptions to this policy will be made during emergencies.
