ROCKVILLE, Md. — The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is accepting applications for 2011 Campus Suicide Prevention grants. The program is designed to assist colleges in their efforts to prevent suicide by funding an array of campus activities and mental health services.
Applicants should provide a detailed conceptual “roadmap” explaining how they will assess suicide prevention needs on their campuses and implement infrastructure to meet those needs. The strategy must support SAMHSA’s first Strategic initiative of preventing substance abuse and mental illness. It must also provide assistance to high-risk youth as identified by the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention, including, but not limited to, lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender youth and military veterans.
Applications are due by March 4, 2011. Applicants much submit a Public Health System Impact Statement (PHSIS) to the appropriate state and local health agencies by the application deadline.
