Conference to Cover Training, Social Media, Gangs, Bullying and More

HILLSIDE, Ill.—The Illinois State Board of Education, the Archdiocese of Chicago Office of Catholic Schools, RETA Security, the Illinois Terrorism Task Force and Proviso Area for Exceptional Children will be hosting a gathering of experts in the field of school safety and crisis prevention on Sept. 8.

District administrators, school administrators, police and fire, transportation directors and other parties in charge of campus safety are encouraged to attend. The event is free.

Guest speakers and topics will include:

  • Ron Ellis – State Program Director, School & Campus Training Project:  “Discussing Free State Training from the ITTF/ISBE”   
  • Sarah Migas – Office of the Illinois Attorney General – Internet Safety Specialist:  “Internet social networking sites, chat rooms, instant messages, peer-to-peer   networks, blogs, cell phones, sexting, and cyber bullying.”
  • Dominick Cappelutti – Waukegan Police Department –  Homicide/Gang Detective:  “All You Need to Know About Gangs”  Dominick will speak about the laws, latest trends,  searching, and how to retrieve valuable information on gang intelligence at your schools.
  • Paul Timm, PSP –  RETA Security Inc. – President:  “Involving Students in School Safety”  Is there a way to effectively and safely involve students  in your security program?  Yes! Paul will share methods and strategies to tap into this tech-savvy and knowledge-filled generation of kids.
  • Richard Paul – Richard Paul & Associates –  President – Duck Sense Bullying Prevention:  “Eliminating the Bullying”
  • Lt. John Kost – Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Counter Terrorism -Florida Department of Law Enforcement  Regional Domestic Security Task Force and the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force: “Lt. Kost will touch on the history of terrorism abroad and in the US. He will do a comparative analysis of our schools to Israeli schools in reference to protection. He will also speak about the Perfect Day Scenario, which was declassified in April of 2002.”
