Authorities announced that a man shot by an officer in a hospital earlier this month has died from his injuries.
The victim, Jaime Lee Brave Heart, was a native-American from the Oglala Sioux Tribe. The officer-involved shooting that led to Brave Heart’s death is being investigated by the FBI and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, reports rapidcityjournal.com.
The officer involved in the incident, who has not been identified, took Brave Heart to Pine Ridge Hospital in South Dakota on June 3 after Brave Heart’s mother reported he was irate.
As the officer and Brave Heart were in the emergency room waiting for an evaluation, police say Brave Heart stabbed the officer and cut him several times. The officer responded by pulling his gun and shooting Brave Heart.
