NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Rutgers University has permanently canceled its annual Rutgersfest after the event led to several injuries and shootings earlier this month. University President Richard McCormick sent out a campus-wide E-mail on April 19 announcing the cancellation of the event, which has been held by the university for the past 30 years.
In the E-mail, McCormick wrote that the problems associated with Rutgersfest had grown beyond the university’s capacity to manage them, the Star-Ledger reports.
Some students expressed frustration that the university cancelled the event instead of redesigning it to be limited to university students. No Rutgers students were injured in the fights and shootings that occurred after Rutgersfest this year.
