ROCHESTER, N.H. – The city council here has approved spending nearly $1.2 million to allow the Rochester School Department to upgrade security at schools throughout the district.
Spaulding High School will benefit the most from the funding, as the district plans to revamp more than 50 doors at the institute, as well as add swipe card entrance, remove second set of doors at the front entrance and install doors at the back of the entry way.
The high school will also add a gated fence to secure its courtyard and install cameras and buzzers on all external doors, Fosters.com reports.
Additionally, eight elementary schools will receive $200,000 to install locks on interior doors so that they can be locked from the inside using a latch.
The project will begin in the summer.
