On Dec. 5, a psychiatric patient was taken into custody after he attacked a doctor, breaking the man’s jaw and knocking him unconscious. Nurses in British Columbia are now calling for improved security at Penticton Regional Hospital.
Gregory Stanley Nield was undergoing a routine interview with the doctor in an examination room prior to the attack. Nurses discovered something was wrong when Nield exited the room and said the doctor was dead, reports CBC News.
The British Columbia Nurses Union is now demanding an investigation into the security measures across the province. In November, according to the union’s president, one psychiatric facility reported 13 assaults, reports the Winnipeg Free Press.
The doctor injured in the attack is recovering at Kelowna General Hospital.
