Province Introduces New Regulations to Protect Hospital Staff

BRANDON, Manitoba — The Assiniboine Regional Health Authority (RHA) is introducing extra security measures to protect rural hospital staff. The changes are in response to new heath and workplace safety regulations that will soon take effect in the province.

Personal panic alarms for nurses will be installed at the Hamiota health center in early August as part of a pilot program, the Winnipeg Free Press reports. The RHA will later install the alarms at each of its hospitals and personal care homes.

The new regulations, which take effect Aug. 31, require healthcare employers to implement measures that prevent violence against employees.
