Ohio’s governor is proposing initiatives that would provide safety and security grants for K-12 campuses.

Gov. John Kasich proposed the package on Wednesday that, if approved, would be available through the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, reports the Associated Press. Of the $17 million proposed, $10 million would be designated for public schools, and $7 million would be dedicated to private school safety and security.

Additionally, the package would offer free assistance to districts with safety plans via a $1.9 million federal emergency management grant that already exists. Training would also be provided. Currently, 84 of Ohio’s schools either don’t have a plan or their plans are outdated.

The plan also includes publicizing an existing hotline designed to accept tips on possible incidents, including suicides, shootings and bullying.
