BELTSVILLE, Md. — The principal of High Point High School has been replaced following numerous complaints about truancy and school safety by parents and community members. More than a dozen police officers reported to the campus last week when a fight broke out in the school’s cafeteria.
Assistant Principal Rebecca Garcia will serve as acting principal in place of former principal Michael Brooks, Gazette.net reports. In a letter sent to parents on March 7, Prince George’s County Public Schools Superintendent William R. Hite Jr. stated that Brooks would no longer serve as principal. A national search will be conducted to find a permanent replacement.
Brooks became principal of the school in 2008. He previously worked as director of student services, assistant principal and acting principal at Falls Church High School in Fairfax County, Va.
Almost 100 parents and community members came to a Parent Teacher Student Association meeting on March 8 to discuss the future of the school.
